Generous extension of the standard tightly dimensioned tank protection bar
The standard tank protection bar only extends as far as the cooler cover and completely eliminates the exposed side tank cover and the tank itself. This is exactly where the extension of the tank protection bar (Item No. 41873-200) from Wunderlich comes in: Solidly attached, it extends from the upper mount of the original tank protection bar to the frame triangle. It consists of stainless steel tube with a diameter of 25 mm. The shape of the bar follows the lines of the Adventure‘s tank design and extends the protection for the tank and its cover. This is remarkable without increasing the width of the Adventure. This is an advantage not only on gravel roads in the undergrowth, but also in the urban jungle or when winding through traffic jams on the highway. Load peaks, which can occur in the event of a fall or overturning, are distributed and dissipated via the tube structure to the pick-up points.
Wunderlich also offers a so-called filler plate, which is inserted in a triangle shape between the tank protection bar and the Wunderlich extension, thus providing additional structural stability and protection. The BMW emblem on the tank is left free and remains fully visible. The design of the filler plate underlines the dynamic and technical appeal of the Adventure and is available in silver (Item No. 41874-101) or black anodized (Item No. 41874-102). It is made of aluminum and is neatly dimensioned with 2 mm material thickness.
The Wunderlich reinforcing bar eliminates the shortcoming of the Adventure engine protection bar
But that‘s not all. Wunderlich offers a reinforcement bar (Item No. 41873-210) which connects the rear end of the standard engine protection bar with the tank protection bar extension. Why all this? The developers at BMW‘s accessory specialists in Ringen have identified the Achilles heel of the original engine protection bar: It is the rear, free end of the Adventure‘s engine protection bar, which has no stabilizing support at all. In the event of a fall or overturning, it tends to give way because the forces are not immediately absorbed. If the load is too high, there is a risk that the engine protection bar will be deformed plastically, resulting in consequential damage and, for example, damage to the cylinder head covers. This danger is considerably reduced by the reinforcement bar, which is mounted with shapely, slim brackets. The curved shape of the reinforcing bar ensures that any load peaks that occur are reduced.
Here, too, Wunderlich uses a stainless steel tube with a diameter of 25 mm, whose surface is glass-pearl blasted and electropolished.
The BMW R 1250 GS Adventure is predestined for long, intercontinental trips. With the extension of the tank protection, the filler plate and the reinforcing bars, Wunderlich completes and perfects the protection of the sides of the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure.
Wunderlich gives a 5-year warranty on the protective components for the Adventure.
Wunderlich offers a variety of model-specific protective components for all current BMW models and many older model series.
