Goodman completes Amazon’s new last mile delivery distribution centre in Völklingen

Goodman, one of the world’s leading industrial property specialists, has completed development of a 12,470 sqm modern distribution centre for Amazon in Völklingen, Saarland. The new facility will provide last mile delivery for customers across the region.

Completed in 18 months, the distribution centre was developed on a “brownfield” site, a former coal power station. The new facility will allow Amazon to serve its customers efficiently by delivering a faster and more flexible experience in this region.

“We’re delighted to open a distribution centre in Völklingen, which incorporates more than 20 years of logistics expertise, technological advances and investments in transport infrastructure. As a result, customers in the state of Saarland will benefit from faster and more flexible delivery options,” says Sebastian Faehte, the Amazon Branch Manager in Völklingen, commenting on this milestone.

Regeneration of the 53,000 square metre site and construction of a new, state-of-the-art sustainable property was successfully achieved through collaboration between all parties.

Christiane Blatt, Mayor of Völklingen, said: “Construction of Goodman’s distribution centre for Amazon is a positive commitment for Völklingen as a business hub. Upon completion, this project will create more than 100 jobs for Völklingen.”

Christof Prange, Head of Business Development at Goodman Germany, commented: “This project sees Goodman continue to deliver our global strategy of investing in prime-locations, and activating brownfield sites, in close proximity to large consumer populations.”

LIST Bau Nordhorn was responsible for completing the construction of the turn-key property. Thomas Lügering, Sales Engineer of the prime contractor, said: “The project in Völklingen is already the seventh that we’ve successfully completed with Goodman. The cooperation between both teams enabled completion on time after only an eight months construction, incorporating design adjustments during the building work without incurring any delays.”
