The spanish national football team lands in China with the launch of its official account on Weibo
The Spanish FA wants to bring one of the world’s best national football teams closer to millions of Chinese football fans and thus is launching its official account on Weibo, China’s most popular social network, on November 2.
This marks another important step in the internationalization strategy of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which considers the Asian market as a key one. China is home to more than 300 million football fans, almost half of whom (114 million) are passionate about Spanish football. From November onwards, the Spanish team will be in good company with other top national teams such as the English, German, Brazilian and French teams, which already have millions of followers on their Weibo profiles.
In its efforts to increase the market presence and visibility of the Spanish National Football Team on Chinese territory, the RFEF is collaborating with the global sports business agency SPORTFIVE. From its office in Shanghai, and with the objective set on the UEFA Euro 2021, SPORTFIVE will support the FA in its market entry. This will entail establishing its presence on Weibo as well as the commercialisation of assets and sponsorship rights related to the Spanish National Football Team.
"We are proud to welcome the Royal Spanish Football Federation to embrace the Greater China market. Football is a sport that ignites the passion of millions of fans across the world while creating memories of a lifetime. The Spanish National Football Team is a leading pioneer in world football. With this cooperation, we hope to support RFEF in engaging with local football fans in China market, while bringing more opportunities for brands with global aspirations."
