Daikin introduces Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) control feature for its Heat Pump Convector

Daikin Europe has announced the release of a new Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) control feature. Available as an option for the floor-standing model of the Daikin Altherma Heat Pump Convector (HPC), the new IAQ control feature allows fresh air to enter the room when its monitor detects excessive levels of CO2 inside. In this way, a Daikin Altherma HPC can provide precise, efficient room heating and cooling with high indoor air quality. Result: improved building occupant comfort and health as well as better energy efficiency.

New feature monitors and improves continually CO2 level

The Daikin Altherma HPC floor-standing model now includes an optional IAQ control feature in which a small wall-mounted controller continually measures the CO2 in the room. When the CO2 level exceeds a pre-set threshold, the controller automatically opens a damper located in the heat pump convector. The open damper allows fresh air to enter the building from the outside. The incoming fresh air is then heated or cooled to the desired indoor temperature by the HPC. Integration of heating and cooling with IAQ helps deliver both optimal temperatures with improved indoor air quality.

Daikin commits to a better indoor air quality

IAQ refers to the quality of air inside the room or structure – air that the building occupants breathe every day. Quality control of indoor air is important because we spend about 90% of our lives inside. Untreated indoor air quality can be 2 to 5x poorer than outdoor air quality. Contaminants found in indoor air can include pollen, bacteria, black mould, spores, viruses, germs, fungi, particulates, and volatile organic compounds.

Patrick Crombez, General Manager Daikin Europe Heating and Renewables: “Daikin’s development team is continuously exploring new ways to improve our products with features that are important to building owners, occupants, installers and for the environment. That’s why, along with heating and cooling, our heat pump convector is now able to provide indoor air quality control. A real added-value for people’s home.”

  • Provides high-capacity heating and cooling plus superior air quality control
  • Suitable for both underfloor heating and radiator replacement
  • Synergizes with air-to-water heat pumps
  • Hot or cold water passes through the unit as the fan blows air into the room
  • Can operate at low temperatures
  • 3 different models:
    • Floor-standing model – mounted low and usually installed like a radiator – optional IAQ control.
    • Wall-mounted model – takes up no floor space.
    • Concealed unit – installed out-of-sight in the ceiling with only the input and output grill visible.
