Biesterfeld and J. Rettenmaier & Söhne (JRS) conclude distribution agreement for personal care segment in Germany

With immediate effect, Biesterfeld Spezialchemie is to be the exclusive distributor of bio-based and biodegradable cellulose raw materials from specialist manufacturer JRS for the personal care segment in Germany. The distribution agreement covers the new portfolio of natural, sustainable and biodegradable plant- and ocean-based ingredients, which are primarily used in formulations for hair, skin and sun care products as well as hygiene products, decorative cosmetics and oral hygiene.

The plant- and ocean-based ingredients are extracted from wood, bamboo, apples, oats, oranges, maize, potatoes and brown algae using both chemical and mechanical methods. These unique products are manufactured under stringent technological conditions and represent the new state of the art in cosmetic products. The portfolio consists mainly of celluloses and upcycled products, processed in a variety of ways in technical plants. Being 100% natural in origin, these raw materials offer a natural alternative to synthetic ingredients. The JRS products can be used for a variety of applications, for example as rheology modifiers, as exfoliants or to enhance the sensory profile of a formulation.

"Increasingly, many of our customers are asking for natural yet functional alternative ingredients," explains Bettina Heick, Business Manager LifeScience at Biesterfeld Spezialchemie. "We’re delighted to be working with JRS and we are confident that our cosmetics customers will be inspired by this portfolio of natural cellulose raw materials. There is a vast choice of products offering a wide range of functionalities that can be used across the full spectrum of cosmetic formulations."

"We were extremely impressed by Biesterfeld’s concept," says Harald Schlosser, Global Head of the Home & Personal Care business unit at JRS. "Technology-based consulting and expertise in cosmetic formulations is especially in demand when it comes to replacing raw ingredients. We feel confident that in Biesterfeld we have found exactly the right partner to give our customers the best possible access to our raw materials."
