The group of companies Kipp invests in energy efficiency, conservation of energy and longevity of constructions

Energy costs have increased significantly and further increase in prices seem unavoidable. This leads to increase in prices in nearly all areas as every industrial production process requires the use of energy.

The companies Jens W. Kipp Tiefbau, Kipp Umwelttechnik and mycon form a small group of companies which has developed or accordingly invested in measures to increase energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption and restoration of constructions for a long time. The three companies cover diverse areas, but cooperate closely.

Jens W. Kipp Tiefbau works in the area of underground working and road building. Kipp Umwelttechnik focuses on cleaning drains and pipes, drain renovation and industrial cleaning. Mycon, among other things, developed new measures of cleaning technology and the digital monitoring of heat transfer systems and manufactures machines and constructions for these areas. Mycon and Kipp Umwelttechnik have been working with universities for a long time.

This year, Jens W. Kipp Tiefbau enters the market segment “coating of constructions”. Jens W. Kipp Tiefbau initially toughens up constructions in need of rehabilitation with special renovation mortar. Afterwards, a coating agent is applied with a pressure of over 100bar, using special coating technology. The agent is chosen according to the given requirement. The coating seals up the construction and develops a long-lasting protection against corrosion. This whole process is monitored by a chemist.

Kipp Umwelttechnik works regionally in the areas of cleaning, inspection and rehabilitation of sewage drains. Furthermore, Kipp Umwelttechnik nationally and internationally cleans industrial heat exchangers of any type. Fin heat exchangers pose as a profitable market which appear, as many know, in the form of cooling units in vehicles. Fin heat exchangers which are used for industrial purposes exist in dimensions of hundreds, sometimes even thousands of square meters. Heat exchangers used in chemical plants, power plants, waste incineration plants etc. for example, often cost millions of euros. There is a constant need for cleaning them as heat exchangers get environmentally polluted sporadically. When there are waste disposals or larger industrial establishments nearby, pollution can become more severe. If cleaning doesn’t occur immediately, energy costs might increase for the company affected. Furthermore, this can lead to production being conditionally impaired for industrial establishments and power plants.

Kipp Umwelttechnik does not clean these delicate constructions with a high-pressure cleaner – a method which is generally applied – but rather does so gently with the patented JetMaster method using pressure of merely 3-7bar and usually 1. Water per minute maximum without chemical additives. This method preserves the environment, water resources and contamination of effluent water which poses a meaningful contribution to the environment.

As part of a support program, Kipp Umwelttechnik currently develops a new method and new coating agents for the rehabilitation of old heat exchangers with the support of the University of Paderborn. This new method enables durable ceramic coating applying very little intensity of e.g., 2/1000 mm. This coating is, furthermore, hydrophobic and partially self-cleaning. As early tests have shown, this smooth coating prevents high costs caused by new acquisition which harms the environment. Moreover, the coating application was shown to have self-cleaning effects which increases the constructions’ energy efficiency tremendously and thus preserves the environment.

After three years of development, mycon just created a cleaning automatic unit for tube heat exchangers. This cleaning automatic unit operates waterless with a low pressure of 4-10bar. The cleaning discharge exiting the heat exchanger gets filtered and automatically packed for disposal. Kipp Umwelttechnik, sister company of mycon, has already tested the cleaning automatic unit during difficult operations for one year.

A complete cleaning construction has just been delivered to Qatar’s governmental gas engineering company. Mycon provides the instruction of one of their engineers which trains the customer’s employees directly on the gas field and monitors their first cleaning cycle of the SRU-constructions. In the core of gas supply, sulfur is detracted from crude gas which can amount up to 25% of bulk volume. Mycon contributes to the frictionless treatment and liquefaction of gas with its gentle and intensive cleaning method TubeMaster AS.

Moreover, mycon and the universities of Paderborn and Hamm-Lippstadt cooperate on a further promising project. Since 2019, the universities of Paderborn and Hamm-Lippstadt – as part of a big project – work on a method to remove glued body components by means of using low temperature.

Project results showed that low temperatures as low as -75 ° which are necessary for separation could not be reached with other methods which are deemed practical for repair shops. Mycon was able to contribute meaningfully regarding this issue with its development of “SplitMaster”. The universities of Paderborn and Hamm-Lippstadt and mycon will work on making this method operational for the automotive industry in an additional new project. Furthermore, they work on acquiring the according industry certification. In addition, the overarching use of this method is to be made available for other industry sectors and the recycling of glued parts.
