Thomas Schlicher becomes new CEO of Senorics: Dresden based high-tech company pursues handheld applications and smartphone implementation of its novel sensors

At Senorics in Dresden, a change in leadership is taking place. Ronny Timmreck passed over management of the high-tech company specializing in near-infrared spectroscopy to Thomas Schlicher on September 13, 2022.

The change comes at a time when the company is transitioning from a 5-year idea and technology phase to the scaling phase. With Thomas Schlicher, Senorics has gained an experienced manager and innovator to take the company to the next level of development.

Ronny Timmreck will remain associated with Senorics as a shareholder.

Senorics‘ technology for handheld applications and the smartphone

Under the leadership of Thomas Schlicher, Senorics will increase its focus on scaling the business model and aligning itself with the consumer market. "In addition to industrial customers, we now want to open up the consumer market for our solutions," explains Schlicher. This step would support Senorics in further strengthening its position as an innovative provider of near-infrared technology. This will be done not only through further miniaturization of the sensor but also through a miniaturized handheld device.

Another focus of development is the implementation of Senorics’ technology in smartphones. If the sensors were built into smartphones in the future, consumers could, for example, determine the material of textiles or the ripeness of fruit in the supermarket. The first handheld solutions are already on the market to offer business customers advanced options for near-infrared spectroscopy.

Über die Senorics GmbH

Senorics is a high-tech company from Dresden, whose technology makes near-infrared spectroscopy suitable for the mass market. With the help of the new sensors, the composition of materials, such as food, agricultural products, plastics, textiles, or pharmaceuticals, can be analyzed and their quantity determined effortless. The sensors are very small, inexpensive, spectrally extremely powerful, and robust against external influences. This makes them ideally suited to be implemented into devices aimed at end consumers, e.g., in the field of household appliances or mobile electronics. For the type of spectroscopy used, a sample is irradiated with infrared light. From the wavelengths of the reflected light and with help of algorithms developed by Senorics, the ingredients contained can be identified and quantified within seconds. The company, which was founded in 2017, is a spin-off of TU Dresden. Today, 43 employees are part of the team. Investors include FIDURA Private Equity Fonds, ZEISS Ventures, Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen, Ventura Investment and TU Dresden Aktiengesellschaft (TUDAG).
