Patented HPS technology: World’s leading year-round electricity storage system for buildings thanks to innovative key technologies

  • Unique key technologies secure global lead.
  • HPS holds 17 patents and 2 utility models.
  • Patents secure further sales markets in Europe, the USA and China.

HPS Home Power Solutions AG (HPS), provider of the world’s first green hydrogen-based, year-round electricity storage system for buildings available on the market, is consolidating its technological lead. In 2022 alone, five new patents were filed, bringing the total to 17 patents and two utility models, parts of which are approved or pending in Europe, USA and China.

The patents and utility models ensure technological leadership in hydrogen technology, power electronics, energy management and, last but not least, safety technology for seasonal electricity storage systems for buildings. At the same time, HPS is constantly developing the year-round electricity storage system, with the product name picea. "Worldwide, our technology developments are unique. Our patents and utility models give us a global edge. At the same time, they open the doors for future sales markets," says Zeyad Abul-Ella, CEO and founder of HPS.

While the building sector accounts for about 40 percent of global CO2 emissions according to a United Nations report, HPS offers an important building block for a low CO2 electricity and heat supply. Combined with a rooftop solar system, the year-round electricity storage system provides greater independence from electricity price increases and security of supply while reducing emissions through patented HPS technologies.

“picea is a paradigm shift. For the first time, homes and businesses can be supplied with CO2 -free electricity from their own roofs all year round. With the picea energy system, our customers, as climate pioneers, are making an important contribution to combating climate change – and completing their own personal energy transition," says Abul-Ella.

Über die HPS Home Power Solutions AG

HPS is a world leader in the development and production of integrated energy storage systems based on green hydrogen for buildings. HPS addresses important areas of the energy transition with its highly innovative picea year-round electricity storage system. The surpluses generated by a photovoltaic system on sunny days is stored as green hydrogen and used in the dark season to supply electricity and heat. Thus, buildings can be supplied with solar energy from their own roofs all year round. The Berlin-based company was founded in 2014 by Zeyad Abul-Ella and Dr. Henrik Colell. With picea, HPS has won several prestigious awards, most recently the Handelsblatt Energy Award, the Berlin-Brandenburg Innovation Award and the Sustainability Challenge of the German Sustainable Building Council.
