Embracing Time, Space, and Nature at Innit Lombok
Located in a secluded area of Ekas Bay on its titular Indonesian island, Innit Lombok is a secret paradise of seven spacious architectural beach houses, an oceanfront restaurant, and unspoiled white sandy beaches. With the architecture and interior design concepts overseen by three of Indonesia’s most renowned talents – Andra Martin and d-associates led by Gregorius Supie Yolodi and Maria Rosantina – the spaces offer modern interpretations of traditional Lombok lumbung-style houses, where community takes center stage. At Innit, this concept translates into open-air living areas, bespoke furniture by Indonesian designers, an abundance of natural materials, and a connection to the local values and villages.
With the overarching aim to build a contemporary resort while leaving the surrounding landscape as untouched as possible, Andra, Gregorius, and Maria developed a concept that redefines outdoor living by truly merging inside and out. Each two-story villa is constructed from just four natural materials: concrete, glass, stone, and wood. Outdoor decks are crafted from iron wood, facades are structured from Raju wood, and teak is found throughout interiors, with all of the wood sourced from Lombok and the neighboring island of Sumbawa. In a daring move, the ground floor of each villa is also directly exposed to the elements, with no walls separating the indoors from outdoors and with sand floors bringing the beach into living spaces.
“The white sand around the location is a very beautiful element that we wanted to insert into the architecture and interior of the villa,” Andra, Gregorius, and Maria say. “So, the sand becomes a continuous flooring from outside to inside, creating a borderless experience between architecture and the nature. We want to engage those experiences into daily life in the villas.”
Beyond the direct connection to the beach, all of the building materials appear only in their raw state or with natural finishes, creating a tasteful simplicity that allows the villas to blend in with and reflect their surroundings. Each of the two-bedroom beach houses, which are approximately 170 square meters, offer full views of Ekas Bay, Innit Beach, and even Mount Rijani in the distance on clear days, with direct beach access. The unwalled ground floors feature sofas conceived by Indonesian designer Alvin Tjitrowirjo for the brand Yamakawa Design, alongside bamboo and wooden pieces by the Indonesian studios Eva Natasa, Kalpataru, Santai Jogja, and Somewher, as well as bespoke dining tables and kitchen counters from hand-made polished terrazzo. Upstairs are two naturally lit bedrooms, equipped with mattresses on elegant teak platforms with matching headboards and benches, custom double wardrobes with tinted mirrored doors, and ensuite bathrooms, where the floors, walls, and counters are also made of handcrafted polished terrazzo.
Further down the beach, the oceanfront restaurant Anakampung serves local and international cuisine, including a signature dish of traditionally prepared lobster grilled over coconut husks, alongside premium wines and cocktails. Fresh seafood is caught by local fishermen, lobsters are sustainably grown in open water floating farms, and a small vegetable garden nearby supplies the kitchen with some produce, while additional ingredients are sourced as locally as possible. Works of Indonesian art adorn the walls and the lumbung ethos is extended here by way of a large, communal sharing table at the center of the restaurant. Separating the villas from the restaurant is a striking 35-meter-long black-tiled swimming pool and wooden deck with sunbeds overlooking Ekas Bay.

Innit Lombok is remotely situated in Ekas Bay, on the southeast coast of Lombok, an Indonesian island east of Bali and west of Sumbawa known for its white-sand beaches and world-class surfing. The island features unending breathtaking coastlines, lush mountains, and an abundance of preserved traditional Sasak culture. A number of surrounding smaller islands, locally called Gili, are motor-vehicle-free, offering undisturbed treks, pristine beaches, reefs, and even sea turtle hatcheries. Countless on- and off-water activities include private yoga sessions, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, surfing, paddle boarding, kite surfing, beach hopping, or simply sunbathing and swimming in the sea or beachfront pool. Guests can arrive at Innit Lombok by sea or land: the property is a 15-minute boat transfer from Awang Harbor or a one-hour drive from Lombok International Airport.
