New technologies and raw materials

.
Rare earths are among the most important raw materials.

Electronic devices, military equipment and renewable energies often require rare earths, of which there are 17 different ones. According to a study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, about 100 innovations have the potential to become future technologies and they influence the raw materials market. The study had the year 2030 in mind. Neodymium, for example, which provides a stronger magnetic field, could then be in demand 3.8 times as much as is produced worldwide today. India and China and other emerging countries are the main drivers of rising demand for raw materials, as they have pent-up demand. Metals that are commonly used, such as copper, are also needed in future technologies.

Critical metals are in particular demand for the path to green technologies. And China, as a raw materials power, wants to keep its distance as far as possible and produce in its own country.  Approximately one third of the world’s rare earth reserves are located in China. The largest mine is located in Inner Mongolia. Around 80 percent of all rare earths mined in China come from there. Germany has a particular need for copper, cobalt, lithium, silicon and rare earths. Germany is striving to advance raw materials projects at home and abroad, because dependencies are no longer popular. The issue of Russia and gas has shown this. Currently, Germany imports about 90 percent of the critical raw materials it needs. The neodymium mentioned above is used in electric motors and generators in wind turbines.

Neodymium, for example, is available from Green Shift Commoditieshttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/green-shift-commodities-ltd/ – in the Berlin project in Colombia. Furthermore, nickel, vanadium, phosphates and uranium are included. A second project of the company in Argentina contains lithium, in demand for lithium-ion batteries.

US Critical Metalshttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/us-critical-metals-corp/ – also has rare earths in the ground in Montana and Idaho. The company’s portfolio also includes a lithium project as well as a uranium and a cobalt project.
