Focus on 5G campus networks: Lower Saxony’s Minister President Stephan Weil visits HMF

Lower Saxony’s Minister President Stephan Weil was a guest at HMF Smart Solutions to learn about 5G campus networks. As a full-service provider and system integrator for state-of-the-art, digital communication solutions with more than 40 years of experience, HMF is a specialist in the development, implementation and accompanying support of customised 5G campus networks, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.

During a joint tour of the company, the Minister President discussed the advantages of 5G campus networks and their importance for Lower Saxony’s economy and society with CEO Matthias Klausing and Martin Hucke, Chief Business Officer at HMF. “For the successful digitalisation of companies, 5G campus networks are a key factor. As an extremely powerful basis for Industry 4.0, among other things, 5G technology offers almost infinite possibilities to significantly increase production and efficiency of workflows – this can be a major competitive advantage" said Klausing.

At HMF’s own Innovation Lab, he showed Minister President Weil specific 5G application scenarios: Smart maintenance, for example with the help of AR glasses, increasing efficiency and productivity through automation (robots, autonomous vehicles) and the interaction of 5G with other technologies (interworking with LoRa, Bluetooth, WiFi). “A dedicated 5G campus network guarantees companies high-performance, secure and highly available mobile data transmission at all times for these and many other use cases, completely independent of third parties such as commercial mobile providers. This is another decisive advantage," explained Bernhard Klinger, Chief Strategy Officer at HMF.

Minister President Weil was impressed: "In the age of digitalisation, data security and sovereignty are of particular importance for companies. Own dedicated 5G campus networks also make a decisive contribution to this."

HMF Smart Solutions is a high-tech company with headquarters in a rural area, but nevertheless active worldwide. HMF employs around 200 people in Germany, Europe and Latin America and has implemented projects in 65 countries. In this regard, HMF’s Head of Human Resources, Dr Katharina Tadje, spoke with Minister President Weil about her experience and challenges in recruiting skilled workers.

For HMF, the visit and the interest shown by Minister President Weil are an important signal that the state of Lower Saxony is continuing to drive forward the development of innovative technologies such as 5G campus networks and is supporting and strengthening companies on their path to digitalisation.
