Energy transition against Earth Overshoot Day
It is about the natural resources that the earth can renew within one year. Whereas in 1971 this day was still in December, this time it is at the beginning of August. It is true that this significant day fell on July 28 last year, but not because the earth became more sustainable, but because the calculation was optimized and changed. Climate protection is therefore urgently needed. This can only succeed, among other things, through the increasing use of renewable energies. That’s where companies whose products contribute to the energy transition come into focus. These products include the raw materials needed for e-mobility, such as lithium, cobalt or nickel, as well as other components.
This is because the major cities are to become greener, and this includes electric buses, e-cars as well as wind and solar energy. These necessary raw materials are needed in large quantities. Recycling or savings in other areas are not enough. New raw material deposits are needed. In the case of nickel, for example, consumption in 2035 is expected to be 476 percent higher than in 2018 and estimates for rising lithium consumption are even higher. But nickel is also a raw material in demand. And if the nickel content in a battery is higher, then energy can be stored even better, which has a favorable effect on range.
The nickel reserves that can be mined profitably are not that large. The largest nickel deposits are in Indonesia.
Nickel, however, is also available in Colombia from the company Green Shift Commodities – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/green-shift-commodities-ltd/ – in the Berlin project. There is also uranium, vanadium and phosphate.
In Canada, Ontario the Canada Nickel Company – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/canada-nickel-company-inc/ – holds the valuable metal at its Crawford Nickel Project, in addition to cobalt.
