Unboxing Ennio Morricone’s Legacy Historical Release of Original Compositions for Orchestras and Ensembles
Musica e Oltre S.r.l. — The Ennio Morricone Official Legacy Company and the Ennio Morricone Estate have entrusted Europäische FilmPhilharmonie — EFPI, located in Berlin, Germany, with the sole curation and distribution of exclusive concert programmes and musical suites from the composer’s extensive catalogue of absolute music and film scores. Europäische FilmPhilharmonie will also prepare newly edited scores from the pieces in possession of the Morricone heirs, including materials licensed to Sony, Sugar Music, Musica e Oltre S.r.l and BMG. Wise Music remains as the global distributor (excluding Italy) of individual music rentals.
From Rome, Italy, the Morricone family’s matriarch and the Maestro’s partner for seventy years, Maria Travia Morricone, declares that “our family is very happy of the agreement with Europäische FilmPhilarmonie and the commitment that they undertook to make my husband’s legacy available to orchestras all over the world”. Travia emphasizes that “the close attention to details, the research and edition that FilmPhilharmonie devotes to the original scores, the understanding that this agreement is about exposing the world not only to his most famous works, but also to the vast body of chamber and symphonic music as well as unknown compositions for films that have not been so lucky during their times, have been a major factor in this decision ‘to open up his studio’ to the world”.
Ennio Morricone’s archive includes more than one hundred works of absolute music and over five hundred scores for film and television. As Fernando Carmena, Creative Director of Europäische FilmPhilharmonie, observes “there is a fascinating network of communicating vessels between Ennio Morricone’s absolute music and his film music, and we aim to reflect that in our concert programmes”. As for the edition of scores Carmena points out that “it does not claim to be a critical edition nor an Urtext facsimile, but a performance edition that draws from the original manuscripts and from the performance praxis established by the Maestro over the years, both in concerts and recordings”.
This cooperation between Musica e Oltre S.r.l. — The Ennio Morricone Official Legacy Company and the Ennio Morricone Estate with Europäische FilmPhilharmonie — EFPI represents an exceptional opportunity to present in concert the multiple dimensions of a monumental artist.
