Pioneering role in climate protection: SHS Group makes the CDP’s A list
“We are delighted to receive this award, which reflects the pioneering role Saarland’s steel industry is playing in decarbonization. Sustainability and climate protection are not an afterthought for us – in fact, they guide all our actions: with “Power4Steel”, we are working on a transformation project with the ambitious goal of producing only “green” steel – i.e. climate-neutral steel – by 2045. This requires comprehensive restructuring of our production process but also secures the future in several respects: it offers added value for our customers, safeguards our competitiveness, and represents a huge leap forward for climate protection,” said Stefan Rauber, Chairman of the Board of Management of SHS – Stahl-Holding-Saar and Chairman of the Management Board of Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke and Saarstahl AG.
The aim of the Carbon Disclosure Project is to achieve the greatest possible transparency in the environmental data of companies, organizations and cities. CDP collects the voluntarily provided data and information and now manages the world’s largest climate protection database. In addition to collecting data on initiatives to reduce emissions and each company’s climate strategy, categories including business and financial plans relating to climate protection, responsibility in the supply chain, governance, and energy savings are also assessed.
After the SHS Group with Dillinger and Saarstahl achieved leadership status with an A-ranking last year, this time the companies achieved the top “A” rating and are therefore on the A list for the first time. The result of the latest CDP ranking is available for interested customers.

SHS – Stahl-Holding-Saar GmbH & Co. KGaA is an operational management holding company with around 14,000 employees and a sales volume of roughly EUR 7 billion. As Germany’s third largest steel producer, its companies produce around 5 million tons of steel that is ready for shipment. It actively performs tasks for the two major steel companies in Saarland, Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger) and Saarstahl AG. The companies are working in unison to grow, to become more flexible and to increase competitiveness in their respective markets.
