SKZ initiates education alliance for additive manufacturing

The importance of additive manufacturing in various industrial sectors continues to grow. In response to this growing demand, SKZ Plastics Centre and its partners have launched the Additive Manufacturing Training Alliance. The alliance is planning a variety of education and training programmes with the aim of providing a sustainable supply of skilled workers.

Partners in the education alliance include AMbitious, AM solutions, Apium | Additive Technologies GmbH, Daimler Truck AG, DREIGEIST Additive Intelligence oHG, EOS, Headmade Materials GmbH, KraussMaffei and Siemens Energy. The joint collaboration will be launched at Formnext in November 2023. During the leading international trade fair for additive manufacturing (also known as 3D printing), the consortium partners were able to provide insights into their respective expertise and educational programmes through presentations and interviews. The event not only marked the start of the collaboration, but also served as a platform for exchanging ideas and discussing future developments in the industry. This was followed by a joint brainstorming session at the SKZ in Würzburg on 27 February 2024.

Building a strong and collaborative community
The aim of this alliance is to coordinate, complement and learn from each other’s activities. By sharing best practice and experience, the Alliance aims to create a synergy to address the challenges and opportunities of additive manufacturing and to reach out more effectively to the additive manufacturing (AM) community. The founding members of the Additive Manufacturing Education Alliance are committed to creating a strong and collaborative community that will work together to drive innovation in additive manufacturing and provide a sustainable platform to upskill professionals and improve the quality of education. The collaboration aims to provide education programmes that are tailored to the current needs of additive manufacturing and are future-ready.

"Pioneering project"
"The Additive Manufacturing Education Alliance is a ground-breaking project that aims to train the skilled workers of tomorrow, while strengthening the importance and potential of additive manufacturing in the industry. By pooling our strengths and resources, we can develop comprehensive training programmes that meet the current and future needs of our industry," says Irena Heuzeroth, Senior Trainer Education Injection Moulding/Additive Manufacturing at SKZ.

Developing new courses
The Education Alliance will offer a wide range of education and training opportunities, including live online courses, face-to-face events and e-learning formats. In addition to the existing training programmes, new courses will be developed. Experienced trainers will lead the courses, which will cover a wide range of topics from basic to advanced. The focus is not only on technical aspects, but also on the entire value chain of additive manufacturing. In addition to the SKZ, a number of companies also offer customised training courses tailored to their own portfolios. This close collaboration ensures that the training programmes offered are relevant, practical and forward-looking.
