The flying car is coming – the right raw materials make it possible

A flying car is set to fly over the 7,000 islands of the Philippines this year.

The new Air Pinoy is a combination of an electric minivan and an eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle) and is ideal for island hopping in the Philippines. It is powered by hydrogen or electricity and visually it is a futuristic minivan with the rear half looking like an airplane. The eVTOL will be able to travel on land as well as in the air. The prototype is due to be completed this year. The areas of application are freight, tourism, regional transportation and ambulance transport. It will be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell or an electric battery system. It should be possible to detach the airframe. Few flying cars have yet arrived in reality, but aircraft with hydrogen fuel cells have already flown in the air. The range of electric aircraft is limited to around 400 kilometers.

When using hydrogen, however, a greater range is achieved and the weight-lifting potential is greater. Hydrogen fuel cells also have a higher energy density. They therefore have the potential to be used in trains and long-distance trucks. What could still slow down the Air Pinoy is legislation in the area of flying cars. However, the United States Federal Aviation Administration wants to deploy eVTOL in the USA by 2028.

This development is made possible by raw materials such as lithium and cobalt.

U.S. Critical Metalshttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/us-critical-metals-corp/ – owns these raw materials as well as rare earths. The projects are located in Nevada, Montana and Idaho.

Sibanye-Stillwaterhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/sibanye-stillwater-ltd/ – produces gold and platinum (used in fuel cells) as well as palladium. However, the focus is also on green metals, such as lithium (for electricity storage) and copper (for electrification).
