No decarbonization without cobalt and nickel

Nickel is used as an alloy material for refining steel. It is also used in solar systems, wind turbines and electric vehicles.

Nickel makes steel corrosion-resistant and increases the hardness of the steel. Stainless steel known as V2A contains eight percent nickel. Nickel and nickel alloys are often used as catalysts for hydrogenation reactions. The largest nickel-producing country is Indonesia. However, nickel mining there is rather difficult for primeval forests and indigenous people. Cobalt is an important component of rechargeable batteries. Cobalt is also used in magnets, diamond tools and alloys. Nickel and cobalt are therefore among the most sought-after battery metals. Most cobalt today comes from the problematic Congo.

Cobalt deposits that are not located in the Congo are an advantage. This is because the working and ecological conditions in the Congo are not the best. Nickel, cobalt and copper are important raw materials for climate change, electrification and electromobility, and their consumption will increase. E-car sales in China rose sharply once again in May. The number of e-cars sold was 9.4% higher than in May 2023. 531,000 electric cars and 881,000 hybrid models were sold in May this year. BYD, the world’s largest producer of electric cars, accounted for almost half of these sales. In order for the e-car boom and the expansion of green energies to continue, raw materials such as nickel, cobalt, copper and, of course, lithium are needed.

Canada Nickel Companyhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/canada-nickel-company-inc/ – owns nickel and cobalt in the Crawford project in Ontario.

Green Bridge Metals is also focusing on the metals of the future. The company’s projects are located in Ontario and Minnesota. Nickel, copper, platinum metals and chromite are included.
