Sustainable and clean mobility thanks to raw materials such as lithium
China is responsible for a large proportion of lithium production and the processing of lithium, and this dependence on China is not to the liking of many other governments. However, the issue of lithium is not always a simple one. This can be seen in the protests by environmentalists in Serbia. This is where Europe’s largest lithium deposit is located and Germany and the EU want to use the Serbian lithium to ensure supplies and greater independence from China. The environmental impact of lithium mining in South America is not always the best. And so lithium companies that do not have these problems are doing well.
There is Targa Exploration – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/targa-exploration-corp/ -, for example. The company owns 15 lithium properties in Quebec, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan. In total, Targa Exploration’s portfolio comprises more than 400,000 hectares of land.
In the USA, Century Lithium is – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/century-lithium-corp/https://www.rohstoff-tv.com/mediathek/unternehmen/profile/targa-exploration-corp/ – in the lithium business. A positive feasibility study has been completed and the pilot plant in Nevada for the production of lithium carbonate is running well. Nevada has large and high-quality lithium deposits. Lithium is still an indispensable component of lithium-ion batteries and therefore important for a greener future.
