Nothing works without lithium-ion batteries

Lithium is a special raw material. It ensures a high energy density, the best range and low self-discharge of the batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are not only used in electric vehicles, but also in energy storage systems, mobile devices, laptops and an increasing number of everyday devices. According to estimates, the market volume of electric vehicles will amount to around 770 billion US dollars by 2028. In 2022, it was just under 420 billion US dollars. In addition to lithium, nickel, manganese and cobalt are among the most important components.

According to a new study, lithium-ion batteries still have around 80 percent residual capacity after 200,000 kilometers of driving, sometimes even more. This means that many batteries can still serve as a storage medium for a second life. Research and innovations are progressing. For example, work is being done on a solar coating for cars to produce electricity for many kilometers. In 2023, batteries in electric vehicles had a total capacity of around 700 gigawatt hours. According to estimates, this capacity is set to grow to around 3,000 gigawatt hours by 2030.

Lithium prices have taken quite a hit, which naturally does not please producers. However, BMI is forecasting a supply bottleneck as early as 2025. Despite the fall in lithium prices, the lithium industry is also looking to the future with confidence. After all, the price of lithium has already fallen several times and new record prices have usually followed.

In addition to lithium, cobalt and nickel, which are available at Canada Nickel Company’s – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/canada-nickel-company-inc/ – projects in Canada, are essential raw materials. Nickel is needed in the steel industry.

Lithium is Century Lithium’shttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/century-lithium-corp/ – business in Nevada. The pilot plant is already supplying lithium carbonate with a purity of 99.5 percent.
