This event will serve as a key platform for showcasing our point of view on the future of smart logistics. Visitors are invited to explore E80 Group’s latest innovations at HALL 5 – BOOTH 5F37, where they will experience how the company is reshaping factories and distribution centres operations with its next-generation automated truck loading and unloading systems, advanced case and layer picking solutions, and industry-leading safety technologies.

From Production to Distribution: A New Era of Efficiency

In a landscape where consumer demand is intensifying and supply chain networks are becoming more complex, companies, especially in the CPG sector, must adopt flexible, and scalable solutions to remain competitive and respond to the Market requirements. E80 Group addresses this challenge with a fully integrated ecosystem that connects production, storage, and distribution.

Whether upgrading existing plants, brownfield, or developing greenfield sites, the company delivers hardware and software solutions designed to enhance efficiency and safety.

At the heart of this transformation is SM.I.LE80, E80 Group’s proprietary software platform, which serves as the brain of integrated automation. SM.I.LE80 orchestrates in real time all the handling processes of raw materials and finished products, and coordinates automated guided vehicles (AGV), end-of-line systems, high-density storage and shipping processes. This data-driven approach enhances traceability, connectivity, and safety, ensuring long-term flexibility for customers worldwide to meet the demands of a constantly evolving market.

With 45 years of experience, E80 Group has deployed more than 450 smart factories worldwide, with a fleet of over 9,000 automated guided vehicles and 2,800 robotic systems and various AS/RS warehouse, handling more than 1 billion € of products worldwide every day. By combining innovation and sustainability, the company continues to set new industry benchmarks, enabling manufacturers and distributors to future-proof their intralogistics flows while achieving operational excellence.

Redefining Truck Operations with precision Automation

E80 Group is transforming intralogistics with AGVs that automate the unloading and loading of truck operations with exceptional precision. With extensive experience gained in the US market, where the Group has successfully rolled out these solutions, the Italian multinational is now launching them on the European market.

Combining AGVs equipped with advanced visual technology, and supporting hardware and software for docks, this solution enables customers to improve pallet handling and ensure accurate positioning, drastically reducing damages to both products and structure and significantly increasing safety in shipping areas. Automated truck unloading and loading is a pivotal feature in a fully integrated intralogistics solution that E80 Group has been developing worldwide for over 40 years, connecting all flows from raw material management to final shipment.

Next-Generation Picking for Retail Distribution

E80 Group has introduced an advanced integrated solution to optimize storage and picking operations in large-scale retail distribution centers. Designed to streamline intralogistics, the system automates key processes – from receiving and storing goods to picking orders and preparing shipments – ensuring greater efficiency and safety while improving overall workflow.

The entire process is optimized to make the products more available for the operators, improving the level of safety within the plant and streamlining the operational flow. At the beginning of the process, goods are received and unloaded either manually or automatically by laser-guided vehicles (LGVs). The numbers of vehicles needed for this operation can be scaled over time, meaning that the company can implement more LGVs according to its business needs and goals. Pallets are checked by an intelligent vision system for shape, dimensions, and product type, while weight is verified by a load cell on the vehicles, to ensure maximum safety and avoid damage to the goods. LGVs pick up pallets from the entry bays and transfer them to the storage area composed of double-deep racks, which is divided into aisles, each designated for a specific product category. Low-rotation SKUs are depalletized; the cases are placed inside a single SKU tote and then stored.

When the ERP of the logistics center receives orders from the stores, it shares them with SM.I.LE80, which identifies all the necessary SKUs in the warehouses and sends the LGVs the lists of goods to be picked.  High-rotation products are placed in picking tunnels, while low-rotation SKUs come out of the totes warehouse. Here, the operator takes the cases from the totes and places them on the various levels of mobile racks.  These shelves are filled with cases of different SKUs belonging to the same product category, each level corresponding to a store order. These racks are picked up by LGVs and placed on the ground inside the picking tunnels according to product category. This logic makes it possible to compact the picking area by reducing the length of the LGVs routes followed and consequently increasing the operational productivity. Once all the SKUs are available, operators prepare orders in picking tunnels, ensuring safety and efficiency, respecting priorities and the stackability of the packages and following store layouts.

E80 Group is also developing new robot on-board vehicles that will carry out the picking operation, customized to meet the different needs of large retailers, in brownfield and greenfield.

Once orders are complete, LGVs transfer pallets, which are wrapped and labeled, to shipping bays. Orders are loaded onto trucks either manually or automatically by LGVs, optimizing delivery and efficiency.

Boosting Safety in Industrial Facilities

At E80 Group, the first goal of every project is safety, a pillar of the company culture. This solid commitment drives the development of advanced technologies that protect people and also enhance operational continuity, ensuring a secure intralogistics process in both factories and distribution centers.

International regulations require automated guided vehicles to be equipped with proximity laser scanners to detect people in the area, alarm systems and protective covers. Our AGVs have always been designed and developed with advanced systems that comply with current regulations.

To further increase the level of security within the facilities, we have patented SmartDect: a people detection system that uses ultra-wideband technology to increase the ability of AGVs to detect the presence of workers in the surrounding area, reducing the risks associated with potentially dangerous situations arising from unpredictable behaviour.

Each AGV is equipped with sensors that communicate with tags worn by operators (no installations on infrastructure needed) within a 15-meters distance. These tags enable real-time monitoring of workers‘ movements, providing immediate feedback through vibrations, flashing signals and audible warnings. In case of potential collisions, AGVs equipped with SmartDect slow down or stop automatically, ensuring an improvement to safe working environment.
