Cutting costs, protecting resources: at Intersolar Europe 2025, SMA demonstrates how renewable energies can be used more intelligently
“Our innovative systems and solutions enable solar energy users to be in control of their energy supply. Our customers expect straightforward, reliable and efficient solutions,” said Marcus Spickermann, Head of Home & Commercial and Industrial Solutions at SMA. “In times of global challenges and economic uncertainty, the significance of readily available solar energy becomes evident once more. For decades, SMA has pursued the goal of making renewable energy available to everyone – easily, cost-efficiently and worldwide. I look forward to Intersolar 2025 and many fascinating conversations about how we can design the use of renewable energies even more efficiently.”
Intelligent energy use for households
The enhanced SMA Home Storage Solution ensures a reliable solar power supply for homes. The new Sunny Boy Smart Energy hybrid inverter is based on a technology platform that has been entirely developed and manufactured in Germany and works seamlessly with the SMA battery to minimize the amount of electricity purchased from the grid and optimize self-consumption. Sunny Home Manager 2.0 handles energy management and responds dynamically to load profiles. Thanks to its modular design, the storage capacity can be adapted flexibly – from 3.2 to 16.4 kWh, depending on individual needs. The intelligent control makes sure that the available solar energy is used in the best possible way. A new backup function provides both single-phase and three-phase battery-backup supply, a key benefit for households that rely on a secure energy supply. The updated SMA 360° app makes installation a breeze: it offers structured support to specialist partners with commissioning and maintenance.
The new StromWallet Dynamic Pro dynamic electricity tariff by SMA and Lichtblick is also part of the trade fair package. It offers PV system operators in Germany even more attractive savings potential in terms of energy costs.
Efficient solutions for businesses
The SMA Data Manager M and the Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS are expanded energy management options that SMA offers to businesses. A new feature is the ability to charge and discharge battery systems based on fixed schedules – a solution that is particularly interesting for manufacturing businesses, logistics companies, offices and supermarkets due to the economic benefits.
Another highlight is the new Sunny Tripower X 60 PV inverter. It is specifically designed for commercial PV systems, includes a System Manager and integrates into the SMA monitoring portal. With up to 60 kW of power and five MPP trackers, it increases energy yield by optimizing multiple strings independently of each other – ideal for complex roof structures or bifacial modules.
Large-scale power plant solutions for maximum flexibility
For operators of large-scale PV power plants, SMA will present Sunny Highpower Storage, a powerful battery inverter with highest system availability. Even at ambient temperatures of up to 50°C, it operates without sacrificing performance and is flexibly scalable – from 1 to 5 MVA or 5 to 40 MWh+. By connecting up to 14 inverters in parallel, the capacity can be expanded based on project requirements.
The new Sunny Central Storage UP-S battery inverter from SMA uses cutting-edge SiC MOSFET technology for maximum efficiency of over 99%. SMA Grid-Forming technology ensures the stability of supply networks that rely entirely on renewable energy.
Visitors will be able to experience the award-winning Sunny Central FLEX platform solution as an interactive 3D model. It demonstrates how photovoltaics, battery and hydrogen technologies can be efficiently integrated into large-scale projects.
Innovations for hydrogen and flexible energy management
SMA subsidiary Altenso will present solutions for current rectification in hydrogen production. With more than 1 GW of installed converter capacity in this area, Altenso offers proven container solutions with medium-voltage switchgear, transformers and rectifiers for electrolysis processes.
Also part of the SMA booth: coneva FLEX, a software solution from the SMA subsidiary coneva. It helps companies offset rising electricity prices, reduce energy costs and ensure grid stability. The software optimizes the use of battery storage systems, charging stations and other flexible loads to avoid load peaks and open up new sources of income through direct selling.
