Uranium could become scarce

New nuclear power plants are being built and planned around the world. This increases the demand for uranium.

As of January 2025, China is planning 36 new nuclear power plants, Russia 14 and India 12. Nuclear power is a clean and reliable means of reducing dependence on fossil fuels. In Canada, the construction permit for the first small modular reactor (SMR) has just been granted, with four planned. The Ontario Minister of Energy and Mines spoke of a historic milestone for Ontario and Canada as a whole. The modular reactor will be the first of its kind in the seven largest western industrialized nations.

Ontario can then be supplied with reliable, emission-free and affordable energy. There are different opinions on how long the world’s uranium reserves will last. According to a uranium study based on data from the OECD conference, uranium deposits could be exhausted by around 2070. This was based on a production price of 80 to 130 US dollars per pound. If the price is higher and assuming possible new discoveries, it could be 100 years more. The International Atomic Energy Agency also currently sees the 2080s as the time when uranium reserves will be exhausted, especially if the demand for nuclear energy continues to grow so rapidly. This is stated in the latest edition of the "Red Book", which deals with uranium resources, production and demand.

And the world’s identified recoverable uranium resources amounted to 7,934,500 tons as of 1 January 2023. Spot uranium prices have also risen significantly since 2021. Although there is enough uranium to cover demand until 2050 and beyond, this would require significant investment in the mining sector. Investors can bet on the rising uranium price with uranium companies such as Premier American Uranium or Uranium Energy.

Uranium Energyhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/uranium-energy-corp/ – is the largest licensed uranium producer in the USA and is debt-free. The ISR uranium projects are located in the USA, with additional projects in Canada. The company generated revenues of almost USD 50 million from the sale of uranium in the second quarter of 2025.

Premier American Uraniumhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/premier-american-uranium-inc/ – owns uranium properties in excellent uranium regions such as Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico.
