NFT Technology Saves Action Artwork from Demolition and Makes Art Digitally Experienceable Forever
This is also how this action artwork was created as part of the Raise-Up Academy, where a 3×3 basketball court was painted by the children. The former basketball professionals Malte Ziegenhagen and Mary Ann Mihalyi from the Chemnitz ‘Niners’ want to help children and young people between the ages of 8 and 15 in the Academy with training camps to become even better in their sport. The painting was created during the training camp in the summer. The kids were supervised by the German artists Ronny Gruner and Ben Hofmann. At first glance, the mural seems chaotic, but a closer look reveals a clear picture of the basketball court – an artistic implementation of the principle of organized chance that colorfully sums up the idea of the ‘fabrik’.
With the demolition of the factory building, the work of art would have been lost. But entrepreneur Frank Theeg had a clever idea: "We fractionated the picture into 60 parts and immortalized them as NFT. Each of these parts can now be sold as a unique original work of art while immortalizing the experience of the entire work." NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token – an electronically encrypted, unique and verifiable token that uniquely represents an item in a blockchain. Thus, each of the 60 image elements becomes an irreplaceable work of art that is of high value due to its uniqueness.
Normally, NFTs only exist in the digital world – but thanks to gummy.link’s innovative technology, it has become possible to use them to protect and enhance real existing artworks and objects. Each part of the artwork is provided with a digital twin, which gives insights into the creation of the action artwork and also makes it possible to experience the overall artwork at any time via video – today as well as in 10 or 100 years.
"NFTs make a whole new art experience possible," says Theeg. "Without our gummy.link, the painting would simply have disappeared. This way, the entire creation process lives on – and in every single element of the total work of art. So each image is forever part of the greater whole."
About gummy.link
gummy.link is a product of authentic.network GmbH based in Chemnitz, Germany. With Gummy, any object becomes an NFT – a unique digital work of art. For the first time, it is possible to make physical objects digitally experienceable in Web 3.0 – and at the same time 100% unforgeable and secure. Gummy builds the bridge from the physical to the digital world – as the first of its kind. Easy to use, unbreakable, uncopiable encrypted and stored in the blockchain.
The Chemnitz-based blockchain startup has come up with a novel technology to fight counterfeiting worldwide. The use of the Blockchain generates global trust and 100% transparency. The end customer only needs a smartphone to use the service. Applications range from drug safety and brand protection to quality seals, security credentials and proof of authenticity of artwork.
