EEX to extend French Guarantees of Origin (GO) registry to non-renewable power GOs

The extended EEX registry will enable account holders to request issuance, transfer and cancellation of non-renewable GOs. As a member of the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB), EEX will also allow import and export of non-renewable GOs certificates through the AIB hub.

As it is the case in several countries already, enabling the disclosure of all energy sources increases transparency for end customers and can make existing disclosure processes more robust.”

GOs enable transparent tracking of origins of various types of energy within the EU. The system is gaining importance throughout Europe with more than 860 TWh certified in 2022, according to AIB statistics. Several other European countries, such as Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands or Sweden, have already extended their power GO system to all sources, in order to reinforce transparency for end consumers.

EEX is already the issuing body for power GOs in France, operating associated primary auctions, and has overseen the French registry for energy savings certificates since 2018. Since October 2023, EEX has also been operating the French registry for biogas GOs and is currently preparing for cleared biogas GO auctions, scheduled for 2024.
