Cables for parking brake and clutch actuation
Clutch cable
The clutch cables are subjected to constant high tensile loads when operated, making them a typical wear part. To prevent excessive wear or, in the worst case, a break in the cable, they must be checked and replaced if necessary. Professional installation is important here, as incorrectly installed or incorrectly adjusted clutch cables present a problem and can cause increased wear on the clutch. A typical example are rotating clutches, i.e. they cause the clutch lining to burn on the clutch disc or the flywheel to overheat.
Parking brake cable
The task of the parking brake is to protect the vehicle against rolling away or to act as an auxiliary brake. The parking brake function is based on the continuous actuation of the rear brake, this is carried out either mechanically by hand or foot actuation, or electrically. It works by permanently locking the vehicle’s wheels. If the effect of the hand brake reduces, a worn hand brake cable is a likely cause. It is possible that the wheels may no longer be blocked correctly after the hand brake is actuated. This is often caused by a corroded or worn hand brake cable. As a classic wear part, it can be replaced easily and at a relatively low cost. However, if the hand brake cable turns out to be intact, it may also be necessary to reset it depending on the condition of the brake pads or brake shoes. This would restore the full function of the hand brake. A well-adjusted hand brake should be able to be tightened in four stages.
