The umlaut connect Mobile Network Test in the Netherlands 2020/2021 has been carefully designed to evaluate and objectively compare the performance and service quality of mobile networks from the users’ perspective. It combined drive tests and walk tests – for detailed voice and data measurements under controlled circumstances – with a comprehensive analysis of crowdsourcing data. T-Mobile scored best, KPN followed at a close distance. Both operators achieved the grade “outstanding“. Vodafone ranked on third place, with “very good” results. The regular measurement scope also included 5G for the first time. It had been the fifth time in a row that T-Mobile scored best in the umlaut evaluation. The results had been published in December 2020.

The umlaut benchmarking methodology is the de-facto industry standard today. It is applied in more than 120 countries measuring over 200 mobile networks worldwide.
