CAN bus modules from Innodisk for unmanned intelligent systems

The demand for unmanned systems has increased significantly since 2020. A report by Fortune Business Insights estimates an annual growth rate of over 12% for so-called Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). Many industries will see increased use of unmanned systems in the future, including agriculture, logistics, transportation, and aerospace. Many industries are looking to take advantage of unmanned vehicle technologies. At the forefront of these developments are unmanned aerial vehicles.

An important component of unmanned systems is the CAN bus. With increasing complexity and increased requirements, it is important that the CAN bus module works faultlessly under harsh conditions such as extreme temperatures and electromagnetic interference. Until now, CAN bus solutions have been a major obstacle to the development of reliable systems.

Innodisk’s industrial-grade CAN bus modules in various form factors are suitable for the extended temperature range and have 2.5KV isolation protection. They support the SAE J1939 and CANopen high layer protocols required to ensure optimal performance under extreme conditions without degradation. At the same time, they offer complete hardware and software integration.

Innodisk’s USB-to-CAN module is used in autonomous drones, agricultural machinery, robotic operating systems (ROS) and Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV). Here, the CAN bus module is used to control the system and interact with the on-board computer and various CAN devices. In the process, problems are diagnosed and reported to the ground station.
