Electricity generation from organic waste plants with silver

By adding silver nanoparticles to bacteria in waste, large-scale electricity generation could become possible.

When certain bacteria break down organic waste, electricity is produced, albeit in small quantities. For example, the decomposition of organic matter by the bacterium Shewanella leads to the generation of electrons. This process only becomes useful as a source of energy when silver nanoparticles, i.e. tiny pieces of silver, are added. As chemists and engineers at the University of California discovered, nanoparticles release silver ions that capture even more electrons inside the bacterial cell. It’s an interesting approach in sustainability efforts. On the one hand, the groundwater is decontaminated, on the other hand, emerging renewable energies can be obtained.

Therefore, the researchers also speak of "microbial fuel cells" in connection with the Shewanella silver. Further studies could lead to significant electricity generation. This is just one of many examples of what is possible with the precious metal silver, especially in the energy sector. Hydrogen, considered by many to be the fuel of the future, can be used more easily with the help of silver. This is because hydrogen, which is already being used in heavy goods vehicles, buses and refuse collection vehicles to reduce emissions, is difficult to store. Hydrogen has to be stored at very low temperatures. Silver, gold or even copper could contribute to simplifying storage. Researchers discovered that when these metals are combined with hydrogen, the hydrogen is in a more stable form. What global research will still bring to light, silver is also a precious metal from an investor’s point of view that should not be neglected, as well as silver companies. That’s where Discovery Silver and Endeavour Silver come in.

Discovery Silverhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlCjZof-Z44 – boasts a mineral resource estimate (measured and indicated) of 910 million silver equivalent ounces at its Cordero silver project in Mexico.

Endeavour Silverhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvlE3YMYBpc – owns two silver-gold mines in Mexico and has been a successful producer for years.
