TÜV SÜD certifies Kriegers Flak, the largest offshore wind farm in Scandinavia
The offshore wind farm of Kriegers Flak is located in the Baltic Sea, 15 to 40 kilometres off the Danish coast. It comprises 72 8-megawatt Siemens Gamesa wind turbine generators adding up to a total installed capacity of 605 megawatts, which corresponds to the annual energy demand of roughly 600,000 households. “Good collaboration with TÜV SÜD played a major role, enabling us to complete this ambitious project on schedule, during a Global pandemic and put Kriegers Flak into operation in September 2021”, says Morten Fjordgaard Jensen, Certification Engineer at Vattenfall.
TÜV SÜD’s contract covered certification of the design of the foundation structure as well as surveillance and certification throughout the manufacturing, transport, installation and commissioning phases in accordance with BEK 73 (Executive Order from the Danish Ministry for Climate, Energy and Buildings, No. 73). Within the scope of certification, TÜV SÜD’s offshore wind energy experts examined the design of the wind turbines’ monopile foundations and their connections to the towers by means of a transition piece. Design examination of the foundations started in summer 2018. The project certificate was handed over to Vattenfall in early September 2021.
“TÜV SÜD supports the development of innovative and sustainable technologies. We are very pleased to have contributed to the implementation of this offshore project for generating clean energy”, says Liana Tatar, the responsible project manager at TÜV SÜD. “Certification confirms that Kriegers Flak wind farm is in compliance with Danish regulations and that the safety of the wind farm is ensured.”
