The collapse of the Swiss passenger car market under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic was expected, just how severe this actually was has now become clear in the registration statistics: With not even 9,000 registered passenger cars at the beginning of the new quarter, this equated to a 68.3 % decline when compared to the same month last year. Electric Vehicles and Plug-ins see a 60% surge in vehicles on the road in Germany in the last year, but do stay in the parc?
On the wings of the German incentive policy, the parc of electric vehicles and plug-ins have grown with 60% from 2019 to 2020. In contrast, the total parc grew with 1.3%. There is still a long way to go to electrification, as the share of Electrical vehicles in the parc stands at 0.3%. Also, in the last 5 years, almost 20% disappeared from the Parc after registration.
