Airports and airlines issue plea to Europe’s Heads of State: Prioritise preparations and set a date to make the Digital Green Certificate a reality
In a joint letter sent to European Heads of State and Ministers last night, aviation bodies A4E, ACI EUROPE and ERA issued a direct appeal for urgent action and transparency in making Digital Green Certificates ready for issue by the end of June at the very latest. Following the European Commission’s proposal for a common EU framework for the Certificates, which the industry fully supports, the signatories are ‘relieved and encouraged’ to see the legislative process being fast-tracked. But, they say this is no guarantee that the Digital Green Certificates will be either implemented or become operational. This rests in the hands of individual countries and their plans largely remain…

Continuation of slots waiver vital for airlines to survive the winter as aviation starts to rebuild
As the aviation industry continues its fight for survival, ERA (European Regions Airline Association), alongside the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Airlines International Representation in Europe (AIRE), has written to the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) to ask for urgent support. ERA (European Regions Airline Association) has conducted its first sustainability report, outlining its sector’s efforts and members’ initiatives in the fight against climate change. Climate change represents one of the biggest threats to the existence of the air transport industry, with movements such as ‘flygskam’ (flight shame) having grown exponentially in 2019. Despite the challenges facing the industry today as a result of COVID-19, green issues remain at the top of the agenda for ERA’s members. ERA is therefore pleased to launch its first Green and Sustainable Connectivity report, providing an outline of the work undertaken by regional aviation stakeholders, particularly its airlines, in order to tackle environmental concerns.…

Airlines decry lack of leadership and clarity from European Commission recommendations on use of travel vouchers during COVID-19
– The lack of leadership from the EC will not alleviate and could even contribute to the financial distress of airlines and the wider tourism industry. – Unclear and non-binding EC recommendations will create further confusion for airlines and passengers at a time when clear, decisive regulatory action is urgently needed. – Request of majority of EU member states for an emergency amendment to Regulation EU261 to defer immediate reimbursements has been ignored. – A recommendation which cannot be followed across the board will distort the EU’s level playing field. Airlines for Europe (A4E), Airlines International Representation in Europe (AIRE), European Regions Airline Association (ERA) and the International Air…
