Artistic Expression and Cultural Identity: Michael Janssen Berlin at NADA New York 2022
Louis Cameron’s Collage Paintings are a visual diary of Berlin seen through the lens of the artist‘s heritage. His abstract, conceptually driven works are inspired by the patchwork patterns of African American quilts. Cameron makes his collages on canvas, processing pictures of textures and patterns he takes on the streets of Berlin through the aesthetics of the quilt tradition. This fragmented visual narrative creates a distinguished portrait of the German capital with glimpses of the American South. Oktober 2021 Schloss & Park Pillnitz DresdenIn der neuen Ausstellungsreihe »Artists‘ Conquest« begeben sich alljährlich Künsterinnen und Künstler auf Entdeckungs- und Eroberungsreise durch die drei Palais von Schloss Pillnitz. In diesem Jahr mit künstlerischen Interventionen von Margret Eicher, Luzia Simons, Rebecca Stevenson und Myriam Thyes. Artists‘Conquest ist ein Ausstellungsformat, mit dem die Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden und die Staatlichen Schlösser, Burgen und Gärten Sachsen gGmbH in Schloss und Park Pilnitz kooperieren und das Kulturdenkmal als Gesamtkunstwerk begreifen. Stijn Ank inSTANCE
Galerie Michael Janssen is pleased to present a solo exhibition by artist Stijn Ank, which will be its third exhibition with the artist to date. Titled “inSTANCE,” the exhibition amplifies Ank’s longstanding practice that explores the performative potential of materials, namely plaster, that the artist builds up meticulously through accumulated layering. In order to shape these mediums, Ank creates molds that act as temporary prostheses. This material driven experimentations border on alchemy, allowing one substance to be distilled or appear in another’s shape with a different stance.
