IPC transfers to FIS the governance of three Para snow sports
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced the transfer of governance of the sports of Para alpine skiing, Para cross-country skiing and Para snowboard to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) as of 13 July 2022 following approval from the FIS membership and the IPC Governing Board. At the 53rd International Ski Congress on 26 May in Milan, Italy, 94 per cent of FIS members voted in favour of the transition, while the IPC Governing Board was unanimous in its approval of the transfer when it met on 31 May 2022. New members of IPC Athletes‘ Council elected at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced the two newly elected members of the IPC Athletes‘ Council who will serve for the next four years until the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games. The two elected council members are: -Birgit Skarstein (Norway, Para Cross-Country Skiing) -Joshua Peter Duek (Canada, Para Alpine Skiing) Three Athletes’ Council positions were available at the election but two athletes were tied for the final place: Mitchell Gourlay (Australia, Para Alpine Skiing) and Rico Roman (USA, Para Ice Hockey). IPC releases details of anti-doping programme for Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games
Ahead of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, in its official report the Independent Observer Team has praised the work of the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Anti-Doping team at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, which took place in August and September 2021. In particular, the IO Team commended the IPC for its "strong commitment to clean sport, as well as for the high standards of its anti-doping policies and procedures". The report includes 20 recommendations for the IPC to address. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has joined the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in condemning Russia’s breach of the Olympic Truce ahead of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. The Olympic Truce was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 2 December 2021 by consensus of all 193 Member States and is co-sponsored by 173 Member States, including Russia. The Olympic Truce began before the start of the Olympic Winter Games on 4 February 2022 and ends on 20 March, seven days after the closing of the Paralympic Winter Games. Three outstanding female candidates each respectively make up the Leadership and Emerging Leadership category.
