At the 20th IPC General Assembly on 11 and 12 December 2021 – which will be held online for the first time – all IPC members in good standing – consisting of National Paralympic Committees, International Sport Federations, International Organisations of Sport for the Disabled (IOSDs) and Regional Organisations – will be invited to elect one President, one Vice President and 10 Members at Large. IPC General Assembly to be held remotely
The IPC General Assembly set for 11-12 December 2021 in Chinese Taipei will now be held remotely after the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) was informed by national authorities in the host country that all attendees would need to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival. Since Chinese Taipei was awarded the General Assembly in June, the Local Organising Committee NPC Chinese Taipei has been developing COVID-19 countermeasures to ensure the health and safety of all attendees. Leading experts in assistive technologies set for 2021 Inclusion Summit
Four of the world’s foremost experts in assistive technologies have been confirmed to participate at the 2021 Inclusion Summit which will be held virtually on 2 and 3 December 2021. Para Dance Sport World Championships in Ulsan cancelled
World Para Dance Sport (WPDS) and Korean Dance Sport Federation for the Disabled (KDSFD) regret to announce that 2021 Para Dance Sport World Championship set to take place in Ulsan, South Korea in November has been cancelled. The announcement was made by World Para Dance Sport and the Ulsan 2021 Local Organising Committee (LOC) on Wednesday, 20 October. The decision follows the latest restrictions set in place in the Asian country due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ulsan was announced as the host city of the 2021 World Championships in May 2021. IPC announces competitive RFP for organisations to become the governing bodies of Para athletics and Para swimming
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is inviting interested parties for engagement meetings about becoming the governing bodies for Para athletics and Para swimming, prior to submitting a response to the Request for Proposal (RFP) by 22 April 2022. The RFP is subject to the IPC Membership voting in favour of a revised constitution at the IPC General Assembly in December 2021. If approved, it will launch a governance reform where the IPC will aim to cease acting as an international federation of Para sports by the end of 2026. Wheelchair basketball conditionally reinstated to Paris 2024 sports programme
The International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC’s) Governing Board has conditionally reinstated the sport of wheelchair basketball onto the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games sports programme after reviewing the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation’s (IWBF’s) progress on developing Classification Rules that are compliant to the 2015 IPC Athlete Classification Code. IPC statement: Arrival of the Afghanistan Paralympic Team
On Saturday (28 August) evening, the Afghan athletes Zakia Khudadadi and Hossain Rasouli were warmly welcomed to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Village by IPC President Andrew Parsons and IPC Athletes’ Council Chairperson Chelsey Gotell. Following their safe evacuation from Afghanistan last weekend, the two athletes spent the week in Paris, France, at the National Institute of Sport Expertise and Performance (INSEP), the French sports ministry’s high performance training centre. On Friday (27 August) evening the pair boarded an 11-hour flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Tokyo Haneda Airport before being transported to the Paralympic Village. Tokyo 2020 to exceed Rio 2016 participation as 162 delegations compete
Tokyo 2020 will exceed Rio 2016 in terms of the number of National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) set to take part in the Paralympic Games. A total of 162 delegations, including the Refugee Paralympic Team and five nations making their Games debut, will compete across 22 sports. There are 21 nations unable to compete. Tokyo 2020 beats Rio 2016 by three delegations (159), a remarkable achievement given the challenges of the last 18 months. London 2012 retains the title of most NPCs, with a 164 taking part. Samsung Paralympic Vloggers to bring unique athlete and fan experiences from Tokyo 2020
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and worldwide partner Samsung are teaming up once again to bring athlete-generated, behind-the-scenes video content from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games that begin on 24 August. Launching on 22 August, Samsung Paralympic Vloggers consisting of 15 leading Paralympic stars and two remote Samsung Paralympic Supporters will use Samsung Galaxy S21 5G Tokyo 2020 athlete phones to share stories, posts and images on Paralympic Games, Samsung’s and the vlogger’s own social media channels.
