IPC opens nominations for Scientific Award
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has opened nominations for the 2021 IPC Scientific Award in its continuing effort to honour the work of researchers in the Paralympic Movement. The Award will be presented at the 2021 VISTA Conference taking place virtually, over six days in partnership with six leading Universities between 18 November and 16 December 2021. The Award winner will also deliver a keynote address at the VISTA Conference. Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, to host 20th IPC General Assembly in 2021
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced that Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, will stage the 20th IPC General Assembly between 11 and 12 December 2021. Ahead of the General Assembly, the IPC Conference will take place on 9 and 10 December at the same venue and will include the 2021 Paralympic Awards. VISTA 2021 announced as an online event
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced that the 10th edition of the VISTA Conference will be organised virtually over six days in partnership with six leading Universities between 18 November and 6 December 2021. Designed to provide a platform for sport scientists and researchers to hear from and have dialogue with experts in the field of sport for athletes with impairments, VISTA 2021 will be led by KU Leuven, Belgium; University of Stellenbosch, South Africa; The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences, Stockholm, Sweden; School of Kinesiology; Western University, Canada; University of Pittsburgh, USA; and Yonsei University, South Korea. Record-equalling 22 candidates announced for IPC Athletes‘ Council elections at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced that athletes from every continent will run for the IPC Athletes’ Council elections at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. A record-equalling 22 athletes have been accepted as candidates to fill the six summer representative positions. The IPC Athletes’ Council is a group of elected athlete representatives who act as the voice of the Para athlete community to the IPC. Samsung Paralympic Vloggers competition launched ahead of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and Worldwide Paralympic Partner Samsung are launching today (4 May) an online competition to select four vloggers to share unique stories of breaking barriers at Tokyo 2020. The competition is open to all athletes heading to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, as well as National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Team Officials. Between now and 24 May, entrants are invited to create and post a video entry up to 60-seconds long (and a maximum of 50mb) through https://www.paralympic.org/… or their own social media channels, by tagging Paralympics and using the hashtag #Tokyo2020. With 86 days left until the opening of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and 118 days left until the opening of the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020), the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Government of Japan today agreed on the following measures to ensure the safe organisation of the Games. Direct qualification events for Tokyo 2020 Paralympics updated
Seven Para sports have confirmed direct qualification opportunities for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Athletes in archery, canoe, rowing, sitting volleyball, shooting, taekwondo and table tennis have a chance to secure their nation’s tickets to Tokyo 2020, which are set to take place from 24 August – 5 September. Nine direct qualification events are scheduled in between now and the Games, while other valid events in a number of sports are also taking place for qualification rankings or to achieve eligibility. IPC appoint Colleen Wrenn as new Paralympic Games Chief
Wrenn brings to the IPC 20 years of experience in the planning and delivery of major events, including involvement in the 2010, 2012 and 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as the 2019 Panamerican and Parapan American Games. In addition to multi-sport events, Wrenn helped deliver both the World Para Athletics and IAAF World Championships in London in 2017, the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2016, and the Modern Pentathlon World Championships in 2002. In recognition of her contribution to the Organising Committee, she was selected as a torchbearer for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay. She joins the IPC from TrackTown USA where she was a Senior Director.…
