Rohde & Schwarz supports China Mobile with 5G VoNR audio quality test
China Mobile requires all 5G enabled mobile phones to support voice services over 5G NR (VoNR). Accordingly, the network operator has announced corresponding audio quality test cases. China Mobile relies on the R&S CMX500 radio communication tester from Rohde & Schwarz for 5G VoNR test verification, and the first acceptance tests have already been performed. While high speed data services are the driving factor in the development of 5G, traditional voice and video communications remain an important part of network operator services. However, the voice business model has undergone tremendous changes between 2G and 5G. In 2G and 3G networks, voice was carried through the circuit switched domain (CS), while data…

Rohde & Schwarz and NOFFZ collaborate to develop a Compact Antenna Test Range production test system for automotive imaging radars
Rohde & Schwarz and market-leading customized test system supplier NOFFZ Technologies collaborate on the integration of the field-proven R&S Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR) reflector technology and advanced radar echo generator R&S AREG800A into NOFFZ’s versatile End-of-Line (EoL) radar sensor test system, the UTP 5069 CATR. This creates a fast, accurate and efficient test system optimized for production that facilitates the transition from radar sensor development to mass production. Radar is the key technology for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Automated Driving (AD). For an improved SAE L3 (Society of Automotive Engineers level 3) experience on the way towards autonomous driving, radar sensors have to accommodate much more complex traffic…

Sivers Semiconductors and Rohde & Schwarz collaborate on testing 5G RF transceivers up to 71 GHz
As 5G networks are being rolled out globally, the evolution of the 5G NR standard continues. With Release 17, 3GPP will extend the frequency support of 5G NR mmWave bands into the unlicensed spectrum up to 71 GHz, a frequency band traditionally used by non-cellular standards like IEEE 802.11ad and 11ay. To address new testing challenges related to this bandwidth extension and to evaluate the performance of the latest generation RF transceiver chipsets, Rohde & Schwarz and Sivers Semiconductors teamed up to test RF transceivers for 5G NR up to 71 GHz. With Release 17, 3GPP will extend the frequency support for its 5G New Radio (5G NR) standard to 71 GHz by Mid-2022. This extension requires…

Signal source analyzer from Rohde & Schwarz in operation at laboratories of US Air Force
AFMETCAL, the Air Force Metrology and Calibration Authority, has ordered signal source analyzers (SSA) from Rohde & Schwarz. They will be operated in AFMETCAL’s precision measurement equipment laboratories (PMEL’s) and Air Force primary standards laboratory (AFPSL). The signal source analyzers are used for calibration of phase noise analog (AM, FM & PM) and digital modulation measurements. For phase noise measurement Rohde & Schwarz has also provided cross-correlation offering very high sensitivity, flexibility and fast measurement speed — all in one box. Munich, December 2, 2021 — The signal source analyzers are based on the R&S FSWP, a phase noise and VCO tester, and featuring very high sensitivity thanks to extremely low-noise…

From the lab to the proving ground: Rohde & Schwarz and Audi cooperate on Cellular-V2X road traffic scenario testing
Rohde & Schwarz and Audi partner to enable Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) application testing; creating road traffic scenarios in the laboratory and using the same traffic scenarios to conduct end-to-end testing on the Audi proving ground with an R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester. Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) is a key technology which will increase traffic efficiency, improve road safety and enhance autonomous driving in the coming years. Of particular importance is the C-V2X PC5 interface, operating in the 5.9 GHz ITS frequency band. This enables direct, reliable, low latency communications between vehicles (V2V), vehicles and infrastructure (V2I) and vehicles and pedestrians (V2P). To accelerate the deployment of this technology, cooperation between companies within the industry…
