SES Government Solutions Provides High-throughput Loopback Services to U.S. Department of Defense
SES Government Solutions (SES GS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SES, in close partnership with a key U.S. Government customer, designed, developed and is fielding an O3b Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) loopback capability to provide greatly improved mission-critical communications for Department of Defense operations in remote locations in Southwest Asia. The awarded task order is against the single-award Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) low-latency High Throughput Satellite (HTS) services. Using the loopback configuration, U.S. Government customers can take advantage of the high-throughput, low-latency capability without using a commercial gateway. The configuration leverages an in-theatre hub and provides in-beam connectivity, similarly…

Revolutionising Connectivity to Bridge the Digital Divide in the Central African Republic
The combination of globalisation and rapid technology advancements in the last two decades has allowed developing countries around the world to harness technological innovation and pave the way for local digital economies. This is especially true across Africa, and more so in Central African Republic which has skipped the tech evolution process and leapfrogged into the mobile connectivity era. I made the move to head up Orange in the Central African Republic (CAR) a couple of years ago from Morocco. In a landlocked nation of close to five million people where high-speed internet had been elusive for years, it was thrilling to see how the smart phones have started to…

SES Networks and Southern Cross Cables Bolster Connectivity Resilience in Pacific Region
Southern Cross Cables Limited (SCCL) will leverage SES Networks’ satellite-enabled connectivity services to vastly improve communications between Nukunonu of Tokelau, Kiritimati Island of Kiribati and the rest of the world as it upgrades the undersea Southern Cross cable network, SES announced today. The Southern Cross cable network, in use since 2000, is a key internet gateway for the Pacific region. SCCL is laying a new cable, Southern Cross NEXT, to augment and ultimately replace the existing Southern Cross cable network. This is part of SCCL’s plan to provide enhanced network resilience and connectivity services to meet fast-growing market demand for internet connectivity in the Pacific region. SES’s O3b constellation of…

SES Expands O3b mPOWER Technology Ecosystem with Modem Platform Partnerships
SES today announced Gilat and ST Engineering iDirect as its latest technology partners who will be developing the core infrastructure modem platforms for O3b mPOWER, SES’s ground-breaking non-geostationary-satellite orbit (NGSO) communications system. Gilat and ST Engineering iDirect were selected based on their next-generation modem technologies. Featuring open architectures with a path to full virtualisation, the modems will interface with SES’s differentiated Adaptive Resource Control (ARC) capability and leverage SES’s use of the Open Networking Automation Platform (ONAP) standard. The combination of this and other technologies will give SES the ability to dynamically control and optimise the entire O3b mPOWER system across space and ground infrastructure, enabling the efficient delivery of…

SES Simplifies Live Broadcast and Sports Events with new IP Switch Solution
At one point in time a major challenge in live news and sports production was to capture exciting moments and replay them in a matter of seconds. Today, the challenge has been upped. It’s not just compelling content and speed that are important, but also simplicity when managing live content and the ability to deliver it to multiple platforms. With that vision in mind, SES has taken on the challenge of upgrading the capabilities of its SES 360 live events management app. Ultimately, we wanted to make live feed management and IP distribution much easier with a new platform within the SES 360 ecosystem – SES IP Switch. SES IP Switch comes…

SES Leads Space & Satellite Industry with Cloud-First Strategy
. While businesses have been steadily moving to the cloud for years, the pandemic has accelerated digital transformation plans from a strategic initiative to a business imperative. As Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella noted in a quarterly earnings earlier this year, “We’ve seen two years’ worth of digital transformation in two months.” In short, the pandemic didn’t change plans, it simply fast-tracked what was already happening. At SES, we recognised this market opportunity years ago. With connectivity demands on the rise, we understood it would be a seismic shift for satellite players to disrupt the legacy satellite operational model. We understood the need to rethink satellite’s role in the broader connectivity ecosystem. Most…
