WAN-IFRA announces the launch of Innovate Local, the first global forum for local media. Through the Innovate Local programme, media professionals will be able to exchange actionable and scalable ideas with a focus on opportunities and problems unique to the business of local journalism. Fifth edition of Table Stakes Europe features 18 teams

The inaugural "Global Climate Journalism Insights: Southeast Asia" report, authored by global journalism initiative climateXchange (cXc), was released this week and tells of a journalism landscape fraught with resource challenges, fear of reprisal and audience apathy. These insights come amidst the urgent need for local engagement on climate change, information about its causes, and its impacts, many of which are being felt acutely across the region. The World Bank reported earlier this year that 13 of the 30 countries most susceptible to the effects of climate change lie within East Asia and the Pacific. The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is gearing up for the 75th World News Media Congress, to be held in Copenhagen from 27-29 May, 2024. To celebrate the milestone, it is expanding its flagship event. In addition to the traditional congress Summits for Media Leaders and Editors, WAN-IFRA will add a focused Digital Revenue stream by incorporating the established and highly successful Digital Media Europe conference into the three-day event. Golden Pen of Freedom Awarded to Journalists Elahe Mohammadi and Niloofar Hamedi, Jailed in Iran
The 2023 Golden Pen of Freedom, the annual press freedom award of the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), has been awarded to Elahe Mohammadi and Niloofar Hamedi, currently in jail in Iran.
