Singapore Press Holdings sweeps Digital Media Awards Asia 2021 with six wins
Singapore Press Holdings emerged the biggest winner at WAN-IFRA’s Digital Media Awards Asia 2021, with a haul of two Golds and four Silvers. Coconuts Media clinches six awards to top small/ medium category. The Asian Digital Media Awards were first launched in 2009 to recognise news media organisations which have adopted digital media and mobile strategies in response to how people consume news and information today. One hundred and forty entries were submitted to this year’s competition. Audiences-First thinking – join WAN-IFRA’s programme to support local, digital transformation in Europe
WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers, is launching the third round of Table Stakes Europe in partnership with the Google News Initiative Digital Growth Programme. The one-year transformation and coaching programme for regional and local news publishers, a collaboration with Table Stakes architect Doug Smith, will once again welcome twenty-four participating news enterprises. New Board Leaders Take Office at WAN-IFRA’s Annual Meeting
WAN-IFRA has announced the election of ten new members to serve on its Supervisory Board of Directors and the Board of the World Editors Forum (WEF). At its General Assembly of Members on June 23, WAN-IFRA presented a positive balance for the year 2020, and foresees a better-than-expected year in 2021 with a growing number of new members. WAN-IFRA, together with sixteen European news organisations, launch the Data Science Expert Group, a network of news media professionals working in data science, data analytics and data engineering. Its goal is to arm practitioners with powerful journalism analytics built around newsroom priorities to grow audiences, deepen engagement and drive subscriptions. WAN-IFRA moves the World News Media Congress to 1-3 December 2021
The prospect of an easing of international travel restrictions as COVID-19 vaccinations increase has prompted WAN-IFRA to shift the dates of its World News Media Congress in Taipei, Taiwan, from 28-30 September to 1-3 December 2021. “As everyone has been reminding us, great things happen when the community comes together and connects at the World News Media Congress for much needed, face-to-face discussions about the future of our industry,” said Vincent Peyrègne, WAN-IFRA CEO. “By moving the event to later in the year, we are increasing the chances of holding a vibrant and safe event. New Guide to Help Activate Cultural Change for News Publishers Launched
WAN-IFRA publishes a new guide to help media executives initiate change in their newsrooms. The handbook summarizes key lessons shared during the Cultural Change Ignition Program for Latin American News Publishers. The Cultural Change Ignition Program was co-organised by WAN-IFRA and the Facebook Journalism Project from October 2020 to January 2021. It worked with 30 media leaders from fifteen news companies from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, to refresh their digital and management skills and reflect on guiding their companies into the future.
