    Singapore Press Holdings sweeps Asian Digital Media Awards 2020 with five wins. South China Morning Post came in a close second place

    The results of this year’s Asian Digital Media Awards were announced in a virtual ceremony held during the online edition of WAN-IFRA’s Digital Media Asia conference, and presented by veteran BBC, CNBC and Al-Jazeera news presenter, Teymoor Nabili, who is now CEO and Publisher of Tech for Impact Asia. The Asian Digital Media Awards were first launched in 2009 to recognise news media organisations which have adopted digital media and mobile strategies in response to how people consume news and information today. One hundred and forty entries were received in this year’s competition. All regional winners are automatically entered into WAN-IFRA’s World Digital Media Awards competition.     New Board Leaders Take Office at WAN-IFRA’s Annual Meeting

    WAN-IFRA is announcing today ten new members who will be serving on its Supervisory Board of Directors. They were elected the Association’s Annual General Assembly of Members held on Wednesday 16 September. Four new members will be serving on its Executive Board of Directors and twenty-five Supervisory Board Members were also reappointed for a new term of office at the same meeting.     The arrest of Apple Daily’s publisher is an assault against Hong Kong’s citizens‘ freedoms

    WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers and the World Editors Forum, have expressed grave concern over the arrest in Hong Kong on Monday of Jimmy Lai, the founder and publisher of Apple Daily, the continued detention of Hopewell Chin’ono, a Zimbabwean journalist and 2010 Nieman Fellow and the increased jail time for Al Jazeera journalist Mahmoud Hussein in Egypt. Mr Lai, his two sons, and six executives of Apple Daily’s parent company, Next Digital, were arrested under new National Security Laws early on Monday and some 200 policemen raided the Apple Daily offices.     GNI APAC Subscriptions Lab Launches at WAN-IFRA Asian Media Leaders eSummit

    The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), FTI Consulting and Google announced the launch of the APAC GNI Subscriptions Lab at the WAN-IFRA Asian Media Leaders eSummit.     WAN-IFRA announces Taiwan to host the World News Media Congress 2021 and reschedules Zaragoza to 2022

    Due to continued uncertainties and travel constraints around the COVID-19 pandemic, WAN-IFRA is calling off the World News Media Congress, which was initially planned for Zaragoza, Spain, in September 2020. Meanwhile, it has named Taiwan as its venue for the 2021 Congress and rescheduled the 2022 Congress in Zaragoza. WAN-IFRA CEO Vincent Peyregne said: “It is with a great deal of disappointment that we have had to cancel this year’s World Congress.
